Truck Art (A Concept Behind Truck Art)
In Pakistan the practice of painting trucks and buses with bright colours is known colloquially as “Phool Patti” translates literally as “Rose Leaf”. In the English speaking world this art style is known as “Truck Art”
Truck owners spend a lot of money into decorating their trucks and have a friendly competition with rival truck owners.
Much in the same way that truck owners compete with each other with who has the newest and best looking trucks, in the world of fashion and pop culture, celebrities try and out do each other on the red carpet at award shows and fashion events.
being from Pakistan, I grew up looking at the colorful trucks and buses everyday and I want to be able to explore that in my designs.
A key factor in choosing this culture of truck art was in its vibrant colours and often kitschy caricatures and illustrations. The use of bright yellows, pinks and reds contrasts sharply against the dull dreary grays and browns of the buildings and traffic on the road. I love how the use of these primary colours can make the trucks and buses pop out and I want to translate that into my collection to make them pop out and be noticed.
